The Milk Program

The Ontario Association of Food Banks' (OAFB) Milk Programme has proven to be very beneficial to food bank recipients in Ontario, especially children. Thanks to the generous support of over 500 dairy farmers throughout the province, fresh, nutritious milk is donated to local food banks each and every month. On average, this represents over one million litres of milk every year. This donation is made possible by the Dairy Farmers of Ontario (DFO), the Ontario Dairy Council (ODC), and the Ontario Milk Transporters Association (OMTA). Organizations like Farm Credit Canada (FCC) have also taken a leadership role in contributing to this programme.
The generosity of the programme partners have allowed food banks to offer more nutritionally balanced hampers. This is especially important to childhood development, as milk is an excellent source of calcium, Vitamin D, protein and other essential nutrients.
